Luciana Littizzetto addresses youth violence and looting in Milan
In a letter delivered to the television program ‘Che tempo che fa’, Luciana Littizzetto addressed the recent violence and looting involving young people in Milan. She urged parents and politicians to look beyond mere punishment and seek to understand the underlying causes of such behavior.
Littizzetto argued that focusing solely on repression and severe penalties is an easy way to gain applause but fails to address the root issues. She suggested that the destruction of property is often a symptom of a lack of purpose and a sense of having no future, rather than a rebellion against culture itself. She criticized the state for becoming increasingly authoritarian yet losing authority by delegating problem management primarily to the police.
