Luciano Darderi faces US Open fines after reaching round of 16
Italian tennis player Luciano Darderi concluded his US Open campaign with a mix of professional success and disciplinary setbacks. After reaching the round of 16, Darderi expressed satisfaction with his performance on hard courts, noting that his losses this year have come only against top-tier players like Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev.
Darderi criticized the US Open scheduling, arguing that matches ending late at night disrupt athletes' biological clocks and recovery routines. He proposed adopting the Roland Garros model, which features a single evening match rather than two, to better protect player health and respect the audience.
However, the tournament organizers imposed a total of $10,000 in fines on Darderi. The sanctions include two $5,000 penalties for racket and equipment abuse, as well as a $5,000 fine for audible obscenity. These penalties will be deducted from his tournament earnings by the USTA.
