Luciano Frattolin trial reveals blood on Montreal girl's jacket

Forensic scientist Kimberly Stoddard testified that blood traces were found on the jacket worn by nine‑year‑old Melina Frattolin, a Montreal resident whose body was discovered drowned in a rural New York marsh. The blood appeared as visible reddish staining on the cuff and hood of the jacket, and similar stains were identified on a document titled “Closure/Confession” recovered from the suspect’s car. Stoddard sent the items for DNA analysis, but the results have not yet been disclosed.

Luciano Frattolin, Melina’s father, is charged with second‑degree murder and concealment of a human corpse. He has pleaded not guilty and has been held without bail since his July 2025 arrest. Frattolin claims two men abducted his daughter and fled in a white van, an allegation the prosecution says is fabricated. The trial, drawing attention on both sides of the Canada‑U.S. border, is scheduled to resume on Wednesday.
