Luciano Zucco proposes flood prevention plan for Rio Grande do Sul
Luciano Zucco, a federal deputy and candidate for the governorship of Rio Grande do Sul, has proposed a new flood prevention system for the state. His plan focuses on three main pillars: creating an integrated monitoring system for cities within the same hydrographic basin to improve communication, prioritizing the immediate relocation of residents from high-risk areas without lengthy licensing processes, and implementing evacuation and contingency drills across nearly 100% of municipalities.
Zucco criticized the current state administration as “reactive” and unprepared, noting that reconstruction funds totaling approximately R$ 7 billion have been stalled due to a lack of bidding processes. Additionally, he addressed rumors regarding the privatization of Banrisul, stating he would maintain the bank as a public institution to serve as an engine for the state's agribusiness sector.
