Lucid Air tops EPA efficiency ratings as MIT study shows US EVs cut CO₂ emissions

The Lucid Air has been awarded the highest EPA efficiency rating ever recorded for a production electric vehicle, achieving 146 MPGe—about 4.33 miles per kWh—and surpassing Tesla’s Model Y and Model 3 by roughly six percent. The rating, confirmed for a second consecutive year, positions Lucid Motors as a leader in electric‑vehicle efficiency in the United States.

A separate study by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology examined the full life‑cycle emissions of battery‑electric vehicles across all U.S. zip codes. The researchers found that, for most drivers, electric cars emit 40 % to 60 % less CO₂ than comparable gasoline vehicles, with potential reductions of up to 4,700 kg of CO₂ per year. The study highlights that emissions benefits vary by regional electricity mix, driving patterns, and vehicle type, but overall confirms the environmental advantage of electric mobility.
