Lucid Motors slashes 18% of US staff, ends second Arizona shift
Lucid Motors announced a restructuring that will cut roughly 18 % of its U.S. workforce – about 1,500 jobs – affecting full‑time employees, contractors and hourly production workers. The plan also eliminates the second production shift at the company’s AMP‑1 plant in Casa Grande, Arizona, to better align output with softened demand. The restructuring is being driven by new CEO Silvio Napoli, who assumed the role in June 2026, and includes the removal of the chief operating officer position, with Marc Winterhoff exiting the firm. Lucid expects the changes to generate about $158 million of annual cost savings and anticipates one‑time cash charges of roughly $32 million for severance and transition costs. The move follows a 12 % layoff in February and comes as the EV maker seeks profitability for its upcoming lower‑cost Cosmos SUV while maintaining robotaxi partnerships with Uber and Nuro. After the cuts Lucid’s global headcount, reported at 9,000 at the end of 2025, will fall to around 6,400 employees.
