Lucid Motors recalls 27,185 Air sedans over lighting fire risk

Lucid Motors has issued a recall for 27,185 Air sedans from the 2022–2026 model years due to a fire risk involving the exterior lighting circuit. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that the low-voltage lighting circuit lacks reliable eFuse overcurrent protection, which could allow the circuit to overheat and potentially cause smoke or fire.

The defect is linked to software versions below 2.10.0. Lucid has already released an over-the-air (OTA) software update in July to address the issue. Owners with vehicles running earlier software versions are advised to park outside and away from structures until the remedy is applied.

Internal investigations identified the root cause as a software eFuse that failed to cut power to the front lighting circuit under certain conditions. The recall follows reports of smoke and a fire incident involving a company-owned 2023 model. Additionally, malfunctioning lighting units may increase the risk of a crash.
