Lucio Zambonini found dead in Verbano-Cusio-Ossola mountains

The body of 63-year-old Lucio Zambonini was discovered on Saturday, September 5, at an altitude of approximately 2,000 meters following an extensive search operation. Zambonini, a resident of Vanzone San Carlo, had been missing since Thursday morning.

He had informed his family that he intended to go fishing in the Rio Mondelli area within the municipality of Ceppo Morelli, in the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola province. The search involved ground teams, helicopters, drones, and specialized canine units navigating difficult terrain. The body was located in a mountainous area frequently used by people gathering wild herbs, such as gentian, which aligns with the man's stated intentions before his disappearance.
