Luckin Coffee receives $1 billion investment from Mubadala
Abu Dhabi-based sovereign wealth fund Mubadala Investment Company has invested approximately $1 billion in the Chinese coffee chain Luckin Coffee. The investment was made alongside controlling shareholder Centurium Capital, though the specific stake sizes for each investor have not been disclosed.
Following the investment, Luckin Coffee announced the appointment of Philip Yifei Bao, Director of Private Equity China at Mubadala, to its board of directors effective September 29, 2026.
The capital injection comes as Luckin Coffee evaluates international expansion, specifically targeting markets in the Persian Gulf region. Chairman David Li confirmed that senior management is assessing these potential new markets. CEO Jinyi Guo noted that the Gulf region presents opportunities due to stable coffee consumption and a growing demand for health-oriented, lower-sugar beverages.
Luckin Coffee has already expanded into Southeast Asia, reaching 100 outlets in Singapore since 2023. As of June 30, 2026, the company reported operating more than 36,000 stores globally.
