Lucknow: SBI employee kills wife and sister before suicide

In Lucknow, Manas Vajpayee, an employee of the State Bank of India, allegedly shot his estranged wife, Divya Mishra, outside an ICICI Bank branch in Gomti Nagar before killing his sister, Shiva Vajpayee, and committing suicide.

CCTV footage shows a dispute and physical altercation between the couple before the shooting. Investigations are exploring whether the killings were pre-planned, as police recovered three unlicensed firearms from Vajpayee’s residence. Vajpayee reportedly posted a WhatsApp status prior to his death, accusing his wife of infidelity and stating his intent to kill both his wife and sister.

The victim’s sister, journalist Pragya Mishra, has alleged years of domestic abuse and stalking. She claimed the couple had been living separately for a year due to ongoing disputes, including a pending divorce case. Allegations have surfaced regarding financial tensions during the divorce proceedings, though Mishra has contested claims regarding specific alimony amounts. Police are continuing to investigate the source of the unlicensed weapons and the full sequence of events.
