Lucknow family alleges mob assault and stone-pelting at mosque
A family in the Badi Kali Mandir Chowk area of Lucknow has alleged they were targeted by a mob following a dispute during a jagran. The victims, 33-year-old Mohd Sufiyan and his 12-year-old nephew Abdullah, claim the violence began after the minor refused to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ following a disagreement over cigarettes.
Abdullah reported being slapped and struck on the head with an iron bangle by members of a crowd. He further alleged that approximately 200 to 250 individuals followed him home, pelting stones at his residence and a nearby mosque. Sufiyan also reported being surrounded and assaulted, resulting in a head injury that required eight stitches.
The family, who manage the mosque built in 1920, stated they are the only Muslim household in the locality and have previously maintained cordial relations with neighbors. They alleged that outsiders have recently claimed the mosque stands on temple land, leading to threats of eviction.
Police have registered an FIR against several named individuals—including Anshu, Vikas, Ashish, Anand, and Mohit—along with 200 to 300 unidentified persons. No arrests have been reported as of the latest updates.
