Lucknow lawyers protest demolition of 200 chambers

Advocates in Lucknow staged a street sit-in on Sunday to protest the planned demolition of more than 200 lawyers’ chambers by the city’s Municipal Corporation. The demolition follows an order from the High Court.

Protesting lawyers, including advocate Balram Jakhar, demanded that the administration provide alternative arrangements for their legal practice before proceeding with the demolition. Jakhar stated that approximately 2,000 advocates would be affected by the action, describing the administration's approach as arbitrary.

Lawyers reported that police and administration officials arrived at the site to carry out the demolition, leading to confrontations. The protesters expressed that they would continue to occupy the streets to prevent the destruction of their workspaces if no alternatives are provided.
