Lucknow sewage management plan launched to clean Gomti River

The Yogi government has developed a comprehensive action plan to reduce sewage pollution in the Gomti River in Lucknow under the Namami Gange program. The initiative focuses on preventing untreated sewage from entering the river through drain tapping, flow diversion, and increasing the capacity of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs).

A recent drone survey identified 45 drains flowing into the Gomti, 12 more than the 33 previously recorded by the municipal corporation. To address this, the government plans to connect these drains to various STPs to ensure proper treatment.

Currently, Lucknow generates approximately 880.70 million liters per day (MLD) of sewage discharge, while the existing 10 STPs have a combined capacity of about 629.5 MLD. This gap highlights the urgent need for expanding the sewerage network and enhancing treatment capabilities to protect the river.
