Lucknow teenager kills mother after dispute over gender-affirming surgery

A 17-year-old boy allegedly killed his 42-year-old mother in the Rajendra Nagar area of Lucknow following a dispute regarding his desire to undergo gender-affirming surgery.

According to police reports, the teenager, who had been presenting as female, faced significant opposition from his family regarding the procedure. The mother had reportedly advised the minor to seek medical and psychological counseling instead of surgery. During a confrontation, the teenager allegedly attacked the woman with an iron wrench, inflicting fatal head injuries.

Investigators noted that the teenager had previously expressed a desire to be recognized as female and had even documented plans to kill his mother in a diary. Police also stated that the minor had used ChatGPT to research the legal consequences and potential punishments for minors committing murder prior to the incident. Following the attack, the teenager reportedly contacted the police himself to report the crime. He is currently in custody as forensic teams and medical experts continue their investigations.
