Lucky Abubakar Aliyu elected to Nigeria Basketball Federation board

Lucky Abubakar Aliyu, a former basketball player and security expert, has been elected as the players’ representative on the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) board. The election, held in Abuja, positions Aliyu to represent both active and retired athletes on the incoming board for the 2026–2030 tenure.

Aliyu has pledged to prioritize grassroots development and youth programs to revitalize the sport and restore the national team's success. He stated that the game will “come alive” through bottom-up development.

His appointment comes at a critical time for Nigerian basketball, as the federation faces questions regarding player welfare, domestic competition structures, and the need for improved development pathways for young athletes.
