South Africa's ex-PRASA chief Lucky Montana hit with asset freeze over $R5.6bn contract

The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) traced the flow of money from the R5.6 billion Integrated Security Access Management System contract awarded by the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) to Siyangena Technologies. The investigation linked the funds to luxury properties owned by former PRASA Group CEO Lucky Montana in Hurlingham, Johannesburg and Waterkloof, Pretoria, valued at roughly R16 million combined.

Based on the evidence, the Special Tribunal issued an interim preservation order freezing two of the five properties suspected of being bought with diverted contract money. Montana has contested the order, claiming the SIU acted improperly. The case highlights alleged corruption involving public‑sector procurement and large‑scale property transactions in South Africa.
