Lucky Supermarket expands Vietnamese product distribution in Canada

Lucky Supermarket, founded as a family shop in 1981, has grown into a major Asian food retailer with nine supermarkets in Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg and Surrey. Together with Dong Phuong Group, which manages import, logistics and wholesale distribution, the chain provides a direct channel for Vietnamese goods to Canadian consumers.

Dong Phuong imports roughly 500 containers of Vietnamese products each year—rice, fish sauce, coffee, dry foods, fresh fruit, beverages, processed items, vegetarian products, home goods and ceramics—accounting for about 30% of Lucky's assortment. The integrated model reduces intermediaries and shortens supply times. Lucky plans to open ten additional stores by 2030, while noting growing consumer demand for processed, ready‑to‑eat, plant‑based and youth‑focused foods.

Vietnam’s trade counselor Tran Thu Quynh and Lucky founder Nguyen Tan Ba highlighted the partnership’s role in enhancing market access for Vietnamese producers and boosting competitiveness of their products in Canada’s modern retail landscape.
