Lucrezia Stefanini advances at Cincinnati after Cocciaretto retirement

Lucrezia Stefanini has advanced to the second round of the WTA 1000 Cincinnati tournament following the retirement of compatriot Elisabetta Cocciaretto. During their first-round match, Cocciaretto struggled with physical issues, including a knee injury and symptoms of dizziness.

After medical staff attended to Cocciaretto to check her blood pressure during the first set, she was forced to withdraw while trailing 5-3. Stefanini, currently ranked 144th in the WTA, will move on to face the 22nd seed, Marie Bouzkova, in the next round.
