Lucrezia Stefanini withdraws from WTA Chennai quarterfinals

Italian tennis player Lucrezia Stefanini was forced to withdraw from the WTA 250 tournament in Chennai, India, during her quarterfinal match against Anastasia Zakharova. The match ended with Zakharova leading 6-2, 5-2, and holding a match point.

Stefanini, the number 10 seed, struggled from the start of the match, losing the first set 6-2. In the second set, after reaching a 1-1 tie, she fell behind 4-1. During the match, Stefanini requested medical assistance for a right foot injury. Despite attempting to continue after receiving treatment, she ultimately retired at 40-30 in the second set.

Zakharova, the number 7 seed, advances to the semifinals to face Magda Linette.
