Lucrin Depot shortage affects early puberty treatment in Turkey

Families in Turkey are facing significant difficulties accessing Lucrin Depot, the only available medication for treating early puberty in children. Reports indicate a widespread shortage of the drug across multiple cities, including Istanbul, Ankara, Kocaeli, Kayseri, Zonguldak, and Bursa.

Investigations have revealed a discrepancy between the Ministry of Health’s “Where is My Medicine?” system and the actual availability in pharmacies. While the e-Nabız digital platform indicates that the medication is in stock at certain locations, attempts to contact dozens of pharmacies listed by the system have been unsuccessful. Pharmacists reported that they either do not have the medication, have been unable to source it from wholesalers for a long time, or cannot provide information on when it will arrive.

Concerns have also been raised regarding potential black market activity, with allegations that some pharmacies may offer the medication at prices exceeding official rates. The shortage is causing disruptions to the treatment plans of children requiring the medication.
