Lucy Dacus releases cover for Blaze Foley tribute album
The tribute compilation “Sittin’ With Blaze” is slated for release on Friday, August 7. It features acoustic and folk‑rock renditions of late Texas outlaw‑country songwriter Blaze Foley’s catalog by a roster that includes Phosphorescent, Lucinda Williams, Willie Watson, Cactus Lee, Dylan Earl, Uncle Lucius, Riley Downing and others. Lucy Dacus contributes a stripped‑down version of Foley’s song “Clay Pigeons,” describing it as one of the best songs ever written and hoping listeners will return to the original material.
Blaze Foley, born in Arkansas and later based in Austin, is celebrated for songs such as “If I Could Only Fly” and “Big Cheeseburgers & Good French Fries.” He was fatally shot at age 39 in 1989. His life was dramatized in the 2018 biopic “Blaze,” directed by Ethan Hawke and starring Ben Dickey.
