Lucy Laborde accuses Attorney General Camargo of irregularities in Nicolás Petro case

Former prosecutor Lucy Laborde has accused Colombia's Attorney General, Luz Adriana Camargo, of exerting undue pressure and irregularities regarding the criminal case against Nicolás Petro, son of former President Gustavo Petro.

Laborde alleges that during her leadership of the investigation, a proposal was made to remove money laundering and illicit enrichment charges, focusing instead solely on alleged fraud. According to Laborde, an attorney suggested that the Presidency would not approve the removal of money laundering charges because a conviction on such counts would damage Colombia's international reputation.

Laborde further claims that Camargo ordered her in a meeting to drop the money laundering charges. The Fiscalía General de la Nación has denied these allegations, stating no orders were given to eliminate charges. President Gustavo Petro noted that Laborde's term had ended and she was replaced by a career prosecutor.
