Ludovic Mendes cites Iberian heritage in fight against French political extremism
French Deputy Ludovic Mendes stated that his triple nationality—French, Spanish, and Portuguese—and his family's history of resisting Iberian dictatorships have shaped his centrist political stance. Speaking at the Civica association congress in Paris, Mendes noted that his background allows him to understand diverse perspectives and fuels his commitment to fighting political extremism.
Mendes, who represents Moselle for President Emmanuel Macron’s Ensemble coalition, highlighted that his family's experience fleeing fascist regimes in Portugal and Spain informs his defense of democracy. He warned of a complicated political landscape in France ahead of the 2027 presidential elections, noting that extreme political factions are increasingly entangled in identity-based debates.
