Medical professionals in the Ludwigsburg district of Germany report a rise in aggressive behavior from patients. Staff members cite several contributing factors, including a declining threshold for aggression, increased impatience regarding waiting times, and a lack of understanding concerning the prioritization of emergency cases.

Additional factors identified by healthcare workers include the influence of alcohol and drugs, as well as patients experiencing psychological crises. Dr. Robin Maitra, a human rights officer for the State Medical Association, noted that medical assistants at reception desks often bear the brunt of this disrespect.

To manage these risks, some practices are implementing de-escalation strategies, such as conducting team discussions on emergency protocols and ensuring the availability of escape routes or lockable rooms.
