Lufthansa arbitration with pilot union ends without agreement

Arbitration proceedings between Lufthansa and the pilot union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) have concluded without a binding decision or a formal solution proposal. The appointed arbitrators, Roland Koch and Bodo Ramelow, initially declined to submit their own proposals to resolve the dispute.

Despite the failure of the arbitration, immediate strikes are not currently expected. This is because a broader mediation process is ongoing behind closed doors. This mediation covers not only collective bargaining issues, such as pensions and compensation within Lufthansa's German flight operations, but also strategic questions regarding the core company's development and crew career prospects.

If the current mediation fails, the parties will not be able to revert to any results from the failed arbitration process. The dispute also involves social plans for Lufthansa Citylines and broader strategic decisions regarding aircraft and crew distribution.
