Lufthansa Aviation Training to train German Air Force pilots
Lufthansa Aviation Training (LAT) has secured a contract to provide Initial Flight Training for approximately 50 prospective pilots of the German Air Force. Starting February 1, 2027, the training will take place at the Rostock-Laage location.
The curriculum includes both theoretical and practical instruction. Theoretical subjects cover meteorology, aviation law, and mission planning, while practical training involves visual flight rules and Upset Prevention and Recovery Training. Students will utilize single-engine Diamond DA40 NG aircraft for their basic training, which culminates in their first solo flight.
Instructors for the program will primarily be experienced former Luftwaffe jet pilots. The training site's proximity to the Tactical Air Force Wing 73 'Steinhoff' allows for direct exchange with the Eurofighter training association. This agreement extends a partnership between Lufthansa and the Bundeswehr that has lasted over 60 years. LAT already provides training for drone pilots, P-8A Poseidon crews, and helicopter personnel.
