Lufthansa Cargo digitalizes customs processes at Frankfurt Airport
Lufthansa Cargo has partnered with IT company allivate to digitalize its import customs processes at Frankfurt Airport. The airline will utilize the FRA-OS module within the FAIR@Link digital platform to streamline operations, specifically targeting e-commerce and general cargo handled via the Neutral Cargo Transfer Point (NFÜP).
The new system allows for the consolidation of customs information and enables partial automation of customs procedures. A key feature is the ability to perform deferred customs presentation. While customs presentation typically must occur immediately after landing, the FRA-OS module allows authorized participants to present goods at bonded warehouses at a later time, facilitated by continuous end-to-end shipment tracking.
This digital transition enables Lufthansa Cargo to bypass certain steps in its transit warehouse, allowing cargo to be handed over to freight forwarders more quickly. This acceleration is expected to provide significant benefits for time-sensitive e-commerce logistics.
