Lufthansa Group to deploy Starlink high-speed Wi-Fi across fleet

Lufthansa Group has announced a partnership with SpaceX’s Starlink to provide high-speed satellite internet across its fleet. The rollout is scheduled to begin on August 19, starting with an Airbus A320neo.

By utilizing Starlink’s low-Earth orbit satellite constellation, the airline aims to offer connectivity speeds comparable to terrestrial connections, enabling passengers to stream video, work in the cloud, and browse the web without interruption. The initiative, branded as ‘Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi’, is intended to cover approximately 850 aircraft within the group by 2029.

The rollout will extend beyond Lufthansa to other group airlines, including SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, ITA Airways, Eurowings, Edelweiss, Discover Airlines, Air Dolomiti, and Lufthansa City Airlines.

Access to the service will be free for passengers who possess a Lufthansa Travel ID or a Miles & More frequent flyer membership, regardless of their booking class. However, the airline noted that video calls and livestreams will remain prohibited during flights.
