Lufthansa Group to display unified branding at airports and charge for hand baggage

Lufthansa Group is planning to make its corporate identity more visible at airports by adding signage that reads “Member of Lufthansa Group” in the hubs of its airlines – Austrian in Vienna, Brussels in Brussels, ITA Airways in Rome, Lufthansa in Frankfurt and Munich, and Swiss in Zurich. The exact placement and size of the group name on the displays are still under discussion, and no implementation date has been set.

At the same time, the group has introduced a new hand‑baggage policy for short‑ and medium‑haul flights. Effective for bookings made after 28 April, passengers are now allowed only a small personal item (about 40 × 30 × 15 cm) free of charge, while larger cabin bags must be paid for, typically at a cost of around €15 per flight segment. The rule applies to all Lufthansa Group airlines, including Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian, Brussels, Discover and Air Dolomiti. The airline says the change aims to offer lower base fares for day‑trippers, while consumer groups criticize the move and call for free hand baggage on all flights.
