Lufthansa invests hundreds of millions in new Portuguese industrial unit

Lufthansa is expanding its footprint in Portugal through a significant industrial investment by its subsidiary, Lufthansa Technik. The company has decided to build a new industrial unit in Santa Maria da Feira, representing an investment of hundreds of millions of euros. This project is expected to create approximately 700 highly qualified jobs in technology, engineering, and specialized aircraft maintenance.

This move occurs alongside ongoing discussions regarding the potential integration of the Portuguese airline, TAP, into the Lufthansa Group. Lufthansa suggests that acquiring TAP could strengthen Lisbon as a major transatlantic hub, complementing its existing operations with ITA Airways and improving connections across Europe, North America, South America, and Africa. The investment highlights Portugal's growing role in the European aviation industry and its capacity to support high-value-added technical activities.
