Lufthansa launches voluntary program to cut up to 550 jobs

German airline Lufthansa has started the "New Ways" voluntary redundancy programme, targeting up to 550 full‑time positions in its core Lufthansa Airlines brand and central corporate units. Employees can choose a standard termination agreement with severance pay or a paid, irrevocable leave until the end of their contract, during which they may work outside the Lufthansa Group.

The cuts are part of a broader restructuring plan announced last year that aims to eliminate about 4,000 administrative jobs by 2030. Lufthansa also intends to centralise functions such as sales and network planning and relocate roughly 1,500 full‑time roles to other international sites, with the Frankfurt headquarters expected to feel the sharpest impact.
