Lufthansa renames Green Fare to Impact Fare due to EU regulations

Lufthansa Group has renamed its special fare, previously known as Green Fare, to Impact Fare. The change is a response to the European Union’s Directive on Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition (ECGT), which aims to prevent greenwashing by banning generic environmental claims like ‘green’ or ‘CO2-neutral’ unless they meet strict, verifiable criteria.

Despite the name change, the structure and pricing of the fare remain the same. Since its introduction in 2023, the fare has seen more than five million bookings, primarily driven by corporate customers.

The Impact Fare allows passengers to fund emissions reduction and removal. For every booking, Lufthansa deploys extra Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). On European flights, the SAF volume covers 20% of estimated CO2 emissions, with the remaining 80% contributing to climate projects. For intercontinental routes, the ratio is 10% SAF to 90% climate projects. Customers can book the fare across all travel classes and receive additional miles and points.
