Lufthansa urged to take active role in airBaltic's future
Latvian Economy Minister and Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS) Prime Ministerial candidate Viktors Valainis has called for Lufthansa, a strategic investor in airBaltic, to take a more active role in the airline's future financing and management.
Valainis noted that Lufthansa holds a 10% stake in the company and argued that the airline's expertise and resources could offer greater assistance to airBaltic than the Latvian state. He emphasized that as a strategic investor benefiting from the fleet, Lufthansa should not remain a passive observer but should collaborate on the company's development.
Additionally, Valainis expressed opposition to the government's proposed financial stabilization solution for airBaltic in the Saeima, citing a need to change the company's current development direction. He stated that the state should not invest direct funds but should instead facilitate negotiations between creditors and investors to establish a new business plan.
