Lugano stabbing leaves 19-year-old in critical condition

A 19-year-old Afghan citizen residing in the region is in critical condition following a stabbing in Lugano, Switzerland. The incident occurred in Via Pelli shortly before 2:00 AM on Saturday, August 22.

According to preliminary investigations by the Cantonal Police and the Public Prosecutor's Office, the victim was attacked with a cutting weapon. Emergency responders from the Lugano Green Cross provided initial medical care before the victim was transported to a hospital, where doctors stated his life is in danger.

Authorities have identified and detained a 20-year-old Italian citizen residing in Italy. He faces potential charges of attempted murder, or alternatively, serious bodily harm, as well as violations of federal weapons and ammunition laws. The investigation is being coordinated by Public Prosecutor Roberto Ruggeri to determine the exact dynamics and responsibilities of the attack.
