Lugo City Council to Join Friend Cities of Childhood Network

Mayor Elena Candia met with representatives of the Galician Platform of Early Childhood Schools, David Castro and Pilar Varela Rojo, to examine proposals for improving early‑childhood services. Both sides agreed to push Lugo’s accession to the international Friend Cities of Childhood network, which promotes protection, participation and well‑being of children.

The discussion highlighted collaboration with the Faculty of Teacher Training, the inclusion of early‑education professionals in designing future playgrounds, and the city’s broader child‑focused agenda, including support for local NGOs, plans for a Temper‑and‑Post‑Temper Care Unit, a municipal mental‑health plan, and partnerships with organisations serving children with special needs. Candia stressed that “the best public policies arise from listening and collaborating with those who know families’ needs first‑hand.”
