Lugo hosts classical music festival and rapid‑painting urban art competition

The 13th edition of the Bal y Gay classical music festival will run from 5 to 21 August in the Mariña region of Lugo, featuring 14 concerts in historic venues and a headline recital by pianist Grigory Sokolov, who returns to Galicia after two decades. The festival receives a €12,000 sponsorship from the Diputación de Lugo and support from the Xunta de Galicia through a partnership with the Fundación Xesús Bal y Gay.

On the same weekend, Lugo staged its 26th Certame de Pintura Rápida al Aire Libre, a rapid‑painting competition that gathered 33 artists from Galicia, Asturias, León, Catalonia and Portugal. Participants created works on the city’s streets until a 5 p.m. deadline, and the jury awarded first prize (€1,600) to Manuel Carballeira Rivas, with additional prizes for other finalists.
