Lugo Mayor announces new safety and family support initiatives

Lugo Mayor Elena Candia has announced new municipal priorities focused on enhancing public safety and improving services for families. Following a recent restaurant fire, the local government is emphasizing the need for well-dimensioned emergency services, including ongoing processes to recruit more personnel for the Local Police and Fire Department. A contract exceeding 60,000 euros has been awarded for the maintenance of fire protection equipment in municipal buildings for 2026 and 2027.

To support family work-life balance, the city is launching the 'Aprende Xogando' program with an annual budget of over 350,000 euros. This initiative improves care ratios, providing one monitor per ten children generally, and one per five children with special educational needs. Additionally, the Council intends to apply for a Early Attention Unit through the Xunta de Galicia and is considering a pilot program for post-early attention support.

Regarding public security, a mobile video surveillance control center has been tendered for over 61,000 euros to bolster safety during the San Froilán festivities. The implementation of this center is subject to authorization from the Government Delegation.
