Lugo remains discovery points to missing woman Isaura Vázquez

Human remains were discovered on Wednesday near the Corro dos Mouros archaeological site in the parish of Santa María Madalena de Adai, located in the municipality of Lugo. The remains were found in an advanced state of decomposition by workers performing clearing tasks in a difficult-to-access area.

Investigators believe the remains may belong to Isaura Vázquez Fernández, an 85-year-old woman who has been missing since July 2025. This hypothesis is supported by clothing found near the body that may belong to her. The discovery site is approximately nine kilometers from the center of Lugo, a distance similar to where the woman was last seen.

Official identification is currently pending DNA analysis conducted by the Instituto de Medicina Legal de Galicia (Imelga). While the investigation is in its preliminary stages, police sources have indicated there are no immediate signs of a violent death. The National Police and Scientific Police have cordoned off the area and conducted searches to locate any additional remains or personal effects.
