Luigi Cavallari missing in Italy's Lake Vico as mayor dismisses Loch Ness fears
Luigi Cavallari, the husband of Italy's Minister for Family, Births and Equal Opportunities Eugenia Roccella, has been missing from Lake Vico since June 27. Search operations continue, with local authorities employing divers, nets and other equipment to locate him.
Mayor Mario Mengoni of Ronciglione addressed media reports that portrayed the lake as dangerous, saying, "The Lake of Vico is not a monster like Loch Ness. It is safe for swimming, though precautions are needed." He noted the lake's certification for bathing quality, its volcanic caldera setting, and advised swimmers to use flotation devices. Mengoni also recalled that six people have died in the lake over the past fifteen years, all of whose bodies were eventually recovered.
The mayor emphasized the lake's appeal for families and tourists, highlighting its proximity to Rome, clean waters, and accessible facilities. He expressed solidarity with Minister Roccella and the local community following the tragedy.
