Luigi Di Maio praises Giorgia Meloni’s diplomatic leadership

Luigi Di Maio, the former leader of the Five Star Movement and current EU Special Representative for the Gulf, has praised Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni for her diplomatic achievements. Speaking at an event in Florence, Di Maio noted that despite their significant political differences, Meloni’s leadership in foreign policy is highly regarded internationally.

Di Maio specifically highlighted Meloni’s participation in the December 2025 summit with the six Gulf monarchies, noting she was the only external leader invited. He attributed Italy’s growing diplomatic influence to Meloni’s ability to build personal relationships with international counterparts and the stability provided by the current government, which allows for continuity in institutional representation.
