Luigi Marattin considers joining Italy's center-right coalition

Luigi Marattin, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (Libdem), is reportedly considering a move toward the center-right coalition led by Giorgia Meloni. This potential shift follows the recent inclusion of Cateno De Luca and his Sud Chiama Nord movement into the coalition.

Marattin has indicated that his party's liberal vision—focusing on reduced state intervention, tax cuts, competition, and nuclear energy—aligns more closely with the center-right than the current center-left. While he has not confirmed a final agreement, he has expressed a preference for the right-wing area over the left, citing a cultural shift within the center-left that makes his platform difficult to implement there.

Within the center-right, there are indications of internal discussions regarding a more liberal direction for the coalition, involving parties like Forza Italia and the Lega. Forza Italia has confirmed it is engaging in dialogues with various centrist forces to consolidate reformist elements around the party. Meanwhile, Marattin faces logistical challenges regarding new electoral laws, which require specific signature thresholds for small parties to participate in elections.
