Luigi Nappi emphasizes HPV prevention through vaccination and screening
At a conference in Rome titled ‘Elimination of HPV-related pathologies: utopia or real possibility?’, Luigi Nappi, a professor of Gynecology and Obstetrics at the University of Foggia, highlighted the importance of addressing HPV-related diseases beyond gynecological issues.
Nappi noted that while cervical cancer is the most prevalent, HPV also affects other areas such as the head and neck. He pointed out that screening and primary prevention through vaccination are currently almost non-existent for these less epidemiologically represented regions.
The professor emphasized that effective vaccination requires reaching significant coverage levels across Europe to ensure concrete results. He stated that early diagnosis and prevention through vaccination carry substantial healthcare, social, and economic value.
