Luigi Pantisano Calls for Die Linke‑CDU Cooperation Ahead of Saxony‑Anhalt Election
Die Linke leader Luigi Pantisano urged the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) to work together with his party, despite having sharply criticised the CDU earlier. He told the Rheinische Post that on the municipal level Die Linke already collaborates with the CDU on numerous projects across Germany and that he is a pragmatist, not an ideologue.
Pantisano previously said, “Letztlich gibt es auch gerade gar keinen Unterschied zwischen der CDU, die faschistische Politik macht, der AfD oder den Faschisten selbst,” for which he later apologised, stating, “Meine Aussage war falsch, ich habe mich dafür entschuldigt.” Polls after the September Saxony‑Anhalt state election suggest that a Die Linke‑CDU coalition could be needed to form a parliamentary majority without the AfD.
