Luino redevelopment and rail transport initiatives
Major redevelopment efforts have begun at the former Ratti industrial area in Luino, Italy. Grand Luino Srl, which acquired the site in 2019, has initiated demolitions and environmental remediation. The company plans to invest hundreds of millions of euros to transform the decommissioned complex into a high-level tourism hub, featuring a five-star hotel, tourist residences, various services, and green spaces as part of a broader development strategy for Lake Maggiore.
In a separate development regarding regional mobility, regional councilor Emanuele Monti has announced a commitment to evaluate restoring passenger rail services on the Luino–Sesto Calende line. Currently used exclusively for freight, the proposal aims to improve connections for residents, workers, and students on the western shore of Lake Maggiore by assessing the feasibility of integrating passenger transport with existing freight traffic.
