Luis Abinader and Juan Garrigó to lead PRM leadership
During the XXIV National Ordinary Convention Orlando Jorge Mera, the Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM) elected President Luis Abinader as party president and Juan de Jesús Garrigó Mejía as general secretary.
This leadership structure is viewed as a strategic move to balance veteran experience with generational renewal. Abinader is expected to provide stability and arbitration to manage internal tensions among potential presidential candidates, while Garrigó, a digital-era politician, is tasked with connecting with younger voters ahead of the 2028 elections.
Key objectives for the new leadership include the total unification of the PRM leadership, the creation of an external structure to attract political actors outside the current administration, and securing the party's ability to remain in power beyond 2028.
