Luis Abinader inaugurates technical training school in Barahona

President Luis Abinader has inaugurated the Guarocuya Technical Professional Training School in Barahona. This new center, operated by the National Institute of Technical Professional Training (INFOTEP), is designed to prepare the population of the Enriquillo Region for employment and entrepreneurship opportunities arising from the expansion of tourism in the south of the country.

The school, located in the former Hotel Guarocuya, aims to serve as a regional ‘hotel school’ to train human capital for the hospitality industry. Training will focus on preparing professionals for management, direction, and operational roles, including chefs and hotel directors. The initiative is linked to broader economic projects in Barahona, such as the construction of a new tourist port.

Maira Morla Pineda, Director General of INFOTEP, stated that the school provides an opportunity for residents to participate in the economic and touristic transformation of the south by aligning training with real labor market needs, specifically targeting youth and workers to promote social mobility.
