Luis Abinader announces audit transparency and agricultural reforms

President Luis Abinader has announced several key policy initiatives and updates regarding the Dominican Republic's governance and economy. In a move toward transparency, the government will begin the progressive publication of audits conducted by the Contraloría General de la República starting October 1. These reports will cover the period from August 2020 to August 2024.

Regarding the agricultural sector, Abinader is promoting mechanization and technological innovation to increase productivity and reduce reliance on foreign labor. He also noted ongoing negotiations with the United States to protect domestic rice production, citing its strategic importance for national food security.

In social sectors, the Minister of Labor, Eddy Olivares, emphasized the government's commitment to eradicating child labor through increased inspections and educational support. Additionally, Abinader reported a significant reduction in poverty, noting it dropped from approximately 26% in 2019 to 16% in the first quarter of this year.

On the defense front, the President highlighted the modernization of the Armed Forces, noting that the country has transitioned from a mere importer of military equipment to a producer of technology, including armored vehicles and drones. He also announced upcoming promotions for military personnel who secured first place in the Fuerza Comando Paraguay 2026 international competition.
