Luis Abinader to be proclaimed PRM president during party convention

The Dominican Republic's ruling Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM) is set to hold its XXIV National Ordinary Convention this Sunday at the Club Polideportivo San Carlos. During the event, President Luis Abinader is scheduled to be proclaimed president of the party, succeeding José Ignacio Paliza. Juan Garrigó will assume the role of general secretary, and Deligne Ascención Burgos will be sworn in as the first national vice president.

While the convention aims to consolidate the party's structure for upcoming political cycles, internal tensions have emerged regarding the election of the Executive Directorate. Although a statutory reform approved in July planned to increase the body from 60 to 65 members, reports indicate that intense pressure from internal factions has delayed the election of these new members. There are conflicting reports regarding the number of new seats, with some internal sources suggesting between ten and fifteen positions rather than the five officially approved.

Potential candidates for the Executive Directorate include Sigmund Freund, Guido Gómez Mazara, Adolfo Pérez, Eilyn Beltrán, Antoliano Peralta, and Luis Miguel De Camps. The convention will also involve the selection of heads for the political formation and statutory reform secretariats.
