Luis Curvelo and Trei Cruz outrighted to minor leagues

The Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers have both moved players to the minor leagues via outright waivers.

Texas Rangers relief pitcher Luis Curvelo has been outrighted to AAA Round Rock after clearing waivers. Curvelo, 25, was previously designated for assignment to accommodate roster moves involving Marco Gonzales and Jakob Junis. Having never been outrighted before, Curvelo does not have the option to reject the assignment and will remain within the Rangers organization.

Similarly, the Detroit Tigers have sent outfielder Trei Cruz to Triple-A Toledo after he cleared waivers. Cruz, 28, was designated for assignment following the selection of Brett Callahan. Despite a strong minor league performance last year, Cruz struggled in his recent major league debut and subsequent Triple-A appearances. As he has less than three years of service time, he cannot elect free agency following this outright assignment.
