Luis Enrique García González wins gold at Mathematics Olympiad

Luis Enrique García González, a 14-year-old student from Táchira, Venezuela, won the gold medal at the XXVIII Central American and Caribbean Mathematics Olympiad (OMCC 2026) held in Durango, Mexico. García González, a student at Colegio Juan XXIII in San Cristóbal, achieved the highest score in the competition with 41 out of 42 possible points.

This victory marks the first time a Venezuelan student has secured the gold medal in this specific competition since 2015. The Venezuelan delegation competed against 44 participants from 13 different countries. Following his performance, the University of los Andes (ULA), Táchira nucleus, honored the student for his academic talent.

García González, who previously received an honorable mention at the International Mathematical Olympiad in Shanghai, plans to represent Venezuela in the Argentine Mathematics Olympiad (OMA). He expressed an interest in pursuing a career in civil or aerospace engineering.
